Design and Technology

Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils will be taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to complete the process of designing and making. All these projects will be intrinsically linked to the topics we are learning about to ensure we gain as much knowledge as possible on that particular topic. We will also learn how to overcome difficulties that arise, both independently and collaboratively.

Pupils will design, make and evaluate their topic based projects linking to what they already know, what they learn in the sessions and knowledge from other curriculum areas such as science and maths. We will ensure the children are given the time and resources to develop the key technical skills in a safe and supportive environment.

As part of their work with food, pupils will be taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. Instilling a love of cooking in pupils will also open a door to one of the great expressions of human creativity. Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables pupils to feed themselves and others affordably and well, now and in later life.
